A Rural Home Meets a Modern Look

How's this one for 'wow' factor? A beautiful rural home near Hills, MN was given a complete exterior makeover, including a new stone coated steel roofing system, siding, trim work, and of course, a renovated farmhouse-style front porch to sit on and watch the world go by. Our homeowners could not be happier and have mentioned that passersby frequently stop to give complements about the transformation.

A family builds for their future

Choosing a contractor, especially when you have a large remodeling job in mind, can be daunting. But in the case of an extended family in our area, working with Boulder Creek has truly become a family affair. The owners of this delightful home just outside Sioux Falls are the third homeowners that have chosen Grant and Boulder Creek for their project last summer.

As soon as they stepped into the front door, our homeowners felt it…this was home. The location was perfect. The neighborhood was perfect. The home itself, however, was not quite perfect for this young couple. The 20+ year old home on the edge of Harrisburg was originally built for a retired couple, and the new owners were in the opposite season of life – wanting to start growing their family.

“We just didn’t want our kids down in the basement, far away from us,” according to the new owner. The original floorplan of the home had one bedroom on the main floor, and two guest bedrooms in the lower level. That’s when the homeowners decided to call in Boulder Creek to see how they could make things work best for them.

“We agonized over the floor plan for a year, and Grant recommend his draftsman, who reconfigured the layout and added in an approximately 1400 square foot addition (which would house the new master suite on the main floor, and additional rooms in the basement).

In August 2022 the renovation project began – converting the main floor into a large open living space with two smaller bedrooms, a jack and jill bath and an office, and adding in a master bedroom suite with the addition. The basement level also changed dramatically, with the addition of two rooms and a LOT of extra light. Consequently, the house now has five bedrooms, giving the homeowners room to stretch out and grow.

“It was a pretty long process, but we appreciated the various crews from Boulder Creek that worked on our home. Grant’s team was awesome. They were fun to be around, they kept us up to date, and they cleaned up the messes from major construction as they worked.”

Another bonus of working with Boulder Creek is that subcontractors are reliable and professional. These homeowners utilized their personal relationships as well, and chose some work to be subcontracted while relying on Boulder Creek to choose other subs. “Grant was open and flexible, which we really appreciated.”

The end result? Not only did the homeowners add the perfect amount of space to make the renovation work for them, they also welcomed a new baby boy in January of this year. Which is proof that home really IS where the heart is.

Happy Homeowners make us happy!

There’s absolutely NOTHING better than a happy homeowner - before, during and especially at completion of a project. Here’s what our home owner had to say about her renovation project:

“If you are looking for a Construction company that does quality work, creative in solving problems, good communication skills and beyond wonderful to work with hit up Grant Tschetter! It’s nice to know they stand behind their work and do the job effortlessly! We are beyond pleased!”

i’m dreaming of a white kitchen

Our homeowner had been thinking about a kitchen remodel for her 1950s ranch home for some time. After meeting with Boulder Creek for another project (new windows for her sunroom) and calling several contractors who didn’t return her calls, she was able to get her dream kitchen this fall with the help of Grant and his team.

This dreamy white kitchen has completely changed the living space into a modern and fresh design. Beautiful white cabinetry with gold-tone hardware frames the show-stopping island in a rich and rustic wood tone. What used to be a boxed-off room is now the heart of a completely open floor plan for this midcentury home. Fun accents like the MCM-inspired pendant lighting and light oak flooring complete the transformation of the space with sparkling detail.

Not daunted at all by the task of kitchen renovation, our homeowner enlisted her daughter to help with the design, and also stayed with her family during most of the the week for the duration of the seven-week project. “I sat up my TV in the sunroom and camped out there on the weekends, but whenever I popped in during the week, the crew was so nice to me! It was a good feeling to know I could stop in anytime to see how the progress was going.”

If you’re thinking about a kitchen remodel but not sure where to start, perhaps this project will inspire you to think about a classic white kitchen that will most likely never become outdated. In this case, our homeowner has many impeccable vintage collections, from an entire wall of Christmas villages that looks amazing on contemporary custom shelving, to a gorgeous collection of vintage bottle brush trees displayed on the island.  The clean, modern white design of her kitchen became the perfect palette to make her collections feel right at home in 2021.

At Boulder Creek, there is really nothing more fulfilling that helping a homeowner realize a well-deserved dream. We wish her and her family a merry Christmas and a happy new year in an outstanding new kitchen. Be sure to give Grant a call if you’re ready to make plans for your own kitchen dream to become reality in 2022.

midcentury dreams into reality

Many of us can imagine our ‘dream home’ – but very few have the ability to envision those dreams very specifically and work tirelessly to make them a gorgeous reality. The owners of this house knew from the start what they wanted the end result to be, and chose to partner with Boulder Creek Exteriors to make it happen.

This 60s-era home in Sioux Falls had all the good bones in its midcentury design. Original wood paneling, a marble fireplace and lots of interesting details made the house worth a second look, but the task to modernize it while honoring the past was a daunting one. The entire remodel of both the exterior and interior took over a year to complete.

That’s a long time to endure a renovation, but Kennon (homeowner) found that working with Boulder Creek made it as painless as possible. Grant from Boulder Creek was not only there to listen and work through ways to make the creativity of his clients come to life, but the entire crew became a part of the story as well. “On that first week after the job was done, it was really weird to be in the home alone. I was so used to ‘living’ with the crew,” said Kennon.

Although the entire interior of the home was basically a ‘gut job’ – there were many nods to the original design that became important to incorporate. The original curved feature wall in the living room had been covered in wood paneling, so new walnut wood sheathing was chosen to echo the look with a more modern feel. The original fireplace was painstakingly restored, and the floating hearth rebuilt. Even the patterned panels from the original stairwell were repurposed as vent covers that were custom made by Nic from Boulder Creek.

Perhaps the most important feature of the home was the original window configuration, which was closely matched in the renovation. The ‘frameless’ application of the drywall around the windows (in lieu of molding) was expertly crafted by the Boulder Creek team. The beamed ceiling was also rebuilt with the original design in mind. Even the trim work throughout the home was thoughtfully custom crafted to ensure the perfect finish.

Beautiful walnut cabinets in the kitchen and bathrooms, marble-like quartz counters, gorgeous wood flooring, graphic floor tiles, a custom steel stair railing, and many other beautiful features round out the design of the home.

Today, the homeowners are looking forward to family and friends finally being able to spend time with them in their stunning home. ‘We’re hoping to raise our family here, and we’re so happy that the end result is pretty close to what we imagined from the start,” said Kennon. And we cannot imagine a more satisfying dream than that.

Cozy four season addition

2020 is ending on a happy note for these homeowners , as they look forward to celebrating the first big holiday in their new 4-season porch built by Boulder Creek. Check out the beautiful wood fireplace with handsome stone surround, built for the coziest winter days ever. Our homeowners are more than just a bit excited for kids and grandkids to begin building memories as they share the new space together. What was the best part of working with Boulder Creek? They mentioned Grant for his 'can do' attitude, and his desire to give his clients what they want...which in this case, is exactly what they got.

FROM BUILDER GRADE TO BRILLIANT

Materials really do matter when remodeling the exterior of a home. In this fresh, modern example, Boulder Creek worked with the creative homeowners to reimagine a tired exterior into something with real wow factor. The materials used meld together perfectly, from the LP SmartSide siding, Pella Lifestyle series windows, and amazing cedar plank siding set horizontally. All of these lovely textures, along with the cable railing built by the homeowner himself, make a feast for the eyes.
